In the 3rd Star Trek film, Scotty quipped to Dr. McCoy, "The more they overtake the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain." So, I've decided to abandon the use of self-extracting EXE files (which some operating systems can't deal with) and even compressed files. From now on, only two types of downloadable media files will exist on this site: 1. Files in their original root formats (WMV, AVI, ISO, etc., etc.).Visitors now have a choice between downloading files in their original and uncompressed root formats ... or the same files split into smaller parts - the latter option being handy for those with slower broadband connections or dialup modem connections. Basically, on the "parts" files, I split files over 200megs into parts no greater than 100megs each (except for the "last" part file which will be probably be smaller than 100megs). I did it with a server-based version of HJsplit called lxsplit. Right-click on the HJsplit link to download it to your desktop if you plan on downloading files in parts and want to "recombine" them offline. It's a multiplatform Java-based GUI utility that will work in Windows, MacOS, Linux, Solaris, etc., environments that have Java installed (and most of us do). Whether you choose to download the root-format files in whole or in parts, I encourage your use of download accelerator software ... software that will allow you to "resume" an interrupted download rather than start over from scratch. My favorite download accelerator (for Windows) is NetTransport. The link is to version 1.87, the last shareware version before they added "nag" screens. Always right-click on downloadable links - choosing "Save Target" from the dropdown menu to download the old-fashioned way - or choosing "Copy Link Location" to import the link into your download accelerator. And always left-click on streaming links to begin the stream. One final note. Only the NTSC format DVD ISO files are "official." Everything else is an "unofficial" transcode of it. And, all "unofficial" files are "episode-only" files without menus, extras, or special features.
Regards, Starship Farragut launched its new animated series on July 20, 2009. Click on the button to your left. You'll get download access to the first two animated episodes, "Power Source" and "The Needs of the Many." However, starting with Episode Two, FLV files will only be streaming files available on YouTube. |
